Caroline Gilray (Paraprofessional)

I began the process of making art around 1960.It was during my first year
of elementary school in kindergarten. I have continued ever since that
wonderful day that teacher placed that paintbrush in my hand and showed
me how to paint and create art.
I have taught art lessons for all ages through church groups,
homeschoolers and public schools since the early 1990’s. After high
school, I attended Fresno City College, Fresno, CA. and received my
Associates of Science Degree.
While my children were in high school in northern Idaho, I completed my
schooling at the University of Idaho, Moscow, Idaho with a Bachelors of
Science Degree in Art Education.
My Art Specialist Teaching career began in 2001.
I spent 16 years in Rock Springs,Wyoming teaching elementary students
the many facets of art education and during the summer through art camp
programs – 3rd through 8th grades. Art has always been my passion and
creativity as a fine artist and teaching students to explore art has brought
me much joy. I have been teaching for over 30 years.
My son and daughter grew up in a home with an art cabinet and never had
a day of boredom with art projects available to them at any time. My
daughter continues to share her passion for art and has had the opportunity
in the past to have worked in my classroom. I am now looking forward to
passing on the art lessons to my granddaughter.
I continue to challenge the students to experiment with their own individual
creativity and have them engage in their process, problem solving and
producing their artwork. Then watching their lightbulb moments and visually
observing the students’ creativity, mature, blossom and change as they
learn and experience art.

I eat, sleep, dream and visualize creating art in a variety of mediums and
using ‘REAL’ subjects, objects, photo references and my imagination.
Here are some other endeavors that are therapeutically relaxing and
fulfilling that I enjoy: power-walking, hiking the hills, cooking, and crocheting
asymmetrical dishcloth designs, while watching silly classic humorous
movies.
It’s a grand blessing to be a fine artist and to have created a vastness of
memorial years of art pieces and to leave a legacy of artwork for my family
and friends. A new art journey will begin with some different mediums
during the summer and fall.

testimonials

What are the parents and students saying?

“I graduated 8th grade in a class of three.  My graduating class in high school had 96 students.  I graduated in the top 10, as a member of the National Honor Society, the National Society of High School Students, and with 57 college credits.

I also learned the importance of friends and family.  In a small school, the idea that “everyone knows everyone” is the truth.  I met one of my very best friends in first grade.  I also know that I could call anyone at the Christian school for help.  And I mean everyone.  Teachers, parents, students, everyone.  Within a matter of minutes after hangin up, I would have an entire community praying and providing support.  That sense of family and community isn’t something you can find easily, much less in 1st grade.  Nearly five years after I graduated from 8th grade, I know that I could still call them today and would have more support and prayer than I know what to do with!”

Alumni

We brought our son here for the academic excellence and small class sizes, but fell in love with the atmosphere of the school.  Our son was not only provided a good education, but was also provided opportunities in real-world experiences.
